Biography Sharif Abdel Mawla


Sharif Abdel Mawla is a Dutch director with Egyptian roots.

He grew up in Amsterdam-West and studied Media & Culture at the University of Amsterdam.

He worked as a freelance creative in advertising (Anomaly, 180, VICE Media, Achtung! and many more), for clients like Triodos Bank, Google, Volkswagen, Netflx and Vodafone.

Sharif’s work got published on Hypebeast, Another Man, i-D, Fast Company and It’s Nice That.

He received several awards and honours: Webby, Cannes Lions, CCB, Spin Awards, Lovies, Merit, Young Dutch Talent.

Sharif also wrote and directed two short films: Shrimpf (2015) and 7 Moroccans and Jos (2017), and directed the music video ‘Mag Het ff Lekker Gaan’  for Sevn Alias ft. Josylvio (2018).

His films have a contemporary and urban feel, and stand out by a combination of strong visual storytelling with authentic (street) casting.
